3-D Art @ Johnston Photography

Every now and then I am hired for an assignment that does not involve images of people or pets. This is just such a project. My client wants to give her husband a more personal gift this year. He has this wonderful amorillis plant that he inherited from an aunt. It has become a source of pride and every year gains more blossoms. It only blooms once a year, and she wanted to capture it so they would enjoy it's beauty all year long. She has selected a 3 dimensional art piece for it's display. The smaller image of the blosom will actually be on a block and stand just over an inch off of the base image. This unique look is really taking off with Johnston Photography portraits, but this is our first for a fine art project. 

Spring?

It is getting hard to believe that it is really mid-May. The weather man has been threatening frost at night, the furnace is still running, and heavy clothing is still in the closet. We did manage to have a couple of over 80 days last week. So the trees, grass and even flowers have come to life.

I have been out capturing some of what the area has to offer. Yes this is what I do for fun too!. I spend my work days photographing children, families, pets and high school seniors, in the studio and on locations around town. I spend my free time photographing everything else! LOL Johnston Photography is more than a job....it is a way of life for me.

I am working on a website for fine art photography. These kind of images  and ones from my travels will then be available as notecards and prints.

Back In The USA!

As many of you know I was invited to Judge in Korea on April 19th & 20th. It was such a great trip! The people were so friendly. The images we judged were amazing! A couple of us had some free time at the end to be tourists. We went to a temple, a palace and 2 open air markets. We took hundreds of photographs! Although several friends that had gone in the past warned me that the food was awful and I should be sure to bring food with me, I found the food to be amazing! Here are a few of the images from the trip. I will share more as I get time to cull through them. For now I need to get back in the swing of the studio. Tomorrow will be my first day back and I am looking forward to the routine!

The Classics

 
This is a print that I created from a few images I took while hanging out with my husband at car shows. During the summer we go to a car show or two every week. He is working on redoing a 1963 Ford Falcon Futura. So he is always gather information and ideas for his car/project. Right now he is working on repainting it. He has gone through removing all of the chrome and filling in the holes for the chrome that is not going back on. If you have been to the studio in the past year you have seen a portrait of him "under the hood"  that won Best Portrait at our state competition last year. I call it "his girlfriend". Any woman with a car junkie understands! LOL This print of "The Classics"  was awarded 3rd place at our state this year. I think I need to go through more of my car show files and see what else I can play around with!!

Fall In Pennsylvania

We got to out and do a little sightseeing and photographing yesterday afternoon. The rolling hills and fall colors are so peaceful. We may get a chance to go out to the country later today. Although I will only have my little point and shoot. Yesterday I was able to borrow a DSLR. I have to say the people here involved at Triangle have been wonderful! Very welcoming. It makes it such a pleasure! 

We will give our program tomorrow and head home in the evening. Too bad it will be dark when we take off. The colors were amazing when we flew in. I guess I should have photographed it when I had the chance!! Silly me!

 

One last thing- Happy Birthday to my son in Arizona!!! Happy 28th Birthday Bubba!! I love you and miss you.

I Must Be Sick!

Yesterday was such a beautiful day here in McHenry County. Dave and I got up and met friends from the running club at a nearby park as we generally do on Sunday. Put in a few miles, came home had breakfast and planned our day. We decided to go to the Autumn Drive in Woodstock. It is this annual craft fair/ garage sale kind of thing along a beautiful road out in the country. Different farms rent out their barns and front yards for vendors to set up and sell their stuff. They also have food available at a couple of the stops. One sells the best kettle corn!! ( I bought 2 GIANT bags) SO I now this sounds pretty normal thing to do on a beautiful fall day, so what makes me sick? Before leaving I asked my husband to run by the studio so I could grab a camera! This is my one day off and I want to spend it with a camera in my hand!! How sick is that. Don't most people want to not think about work on their day off. Not me. I love photography! It is my job, my hobby, my passion. I photograph people for a living and stuff for fun. There are days I feel bad for my husband. It is kind of a love me, love my camera thing with me. Here are a couple of the images I created while out enjoying the day.
